St. Vitus Cathedral

My favorite part of the Castle tour was when we walked through a passageway and the gothic St. Vitus Cathedral loomed in front of us!  It was breathtaking!!!  I'm not exaggerating when I said that it "loomed"!!

Get ready ......

Wait for it ...............

LOOM.......

St Vitus Cathedral is the most recognized landmark in the city of Prague.  In 1344, Charles IV began construction of the Cathedral. In 1421, the Hussite wars stopped the work on the Cathedral and it was wasn't until 1872 that the work resumed.  It was finally completed in 1929.  Since it was a National holiday - St. Wenceslas Day - we were not able to enter the cathedral or any part of the castle.

There are two clocks on one of the towers of the cathedral.  Upon closer inspection, you can see that one of the clocks registers the hours and the other, the minutes.
